Marigold is a versatile flower. It is used for prayer, for decoration, as an easy to grow garden flower but it also holds medicinal value, specially for skincare. Marigold balm is supposed to be soothing and calming when applied on skin and it helps calm rashes and irritation.
Let’s make MARIGOLD HEALING BALM for skincare in 7 steps, without any preservatives or nasty chemicals.
MATERIAL REQUIRED:
- SHEA BUTTER
- COCOA BUTTER
- DRIED MARIGOLD PETALS
- STRAINER
- DOUBLE BOILER ARRANGEMENT
- SMALL TINS
- ANY ESSENTIAL OIL (optional)
- DRY MARIGOLD PETALS
- Harvest fresh clean marigold flowers & wash them
- Cover and dry them outdoors for 2-3 days till completely dehydrated
- Make sure there is no moisture left as it may spoil the balm
- BRING BUTTER TO ROOM TEMPERATURE
- Keep both butters at room temperature to make them easy to melt
- COMBINE
- To a bowl full of petals, add 60% shea butter & 40% cocoa butter
- Shea butter will provide soft balmy texture
- Cocoa butter will hold it together to prevent the balm from melting in hot weather
- If you are comfortable with a hard texture or live at a very hot place, increase the amount of cocoa butter
- HEAT & MELT
- Bring water to a boil in one pan and reduce the flame
- Keep the bowl of ingredients inside the water pan and let it all melt slowly
- Make sure no water goes inside the ingredients
- LET IT INFUSE
- Once melted, let it infuse for some time till it starts to change colour
- HEAT AGAIN
- Heat it once again using the same method till melted
- Add any essential oil if you wish, tea tree for healing benefits and preservation, geranium or rose for fragrance
- POUR INTO TINS
- Strain and pour into tins
- Add a few dried petals into the tins
- Let it dry completely
This marigold balm will stay good only for a couple of months so make small batches. You can also use it as a lip balm for chapped lips.
