WHY DO PLANTS DIE IN BATHROOM?
Bathroom is a high-humidity and often low-light area. Mostly there is little ot no ventilation. So plants must be potted accordingly to keep them alive. Check KEY TIPS below to keep plants alive in bathrooms.
- DRAINAGE – Use well-draining, sandy soil for potting plants. There is enough humidity in bathrooms already.
- VENTILATION – Lack of air circulation can cause diseases and kill the plants. Use the fan, exhaust or windows to allow flow of air.
- ROTATION – Plant two identical planters with the same plants and keep rotating them indoors & outdoors to keep them healthy & fresh. You will always have a plant with good growth kept indoors at all times.
- PLANTER – Use planters that are breathable and allow roots to grow better. Use terracotta, cement or mitti gamla placed inside a ceramic pot. Avoid planting directly in plastic pots. Layer with terracotta pot inside.
- SIZE – The pot should be sufficiently larger than the rootball.
- ROOT ROT – Too much standing water or fungal diseases can cause the roots to rot & kill the plant. Check regularly for proper drainage, use sand in the potting mixture, avoid cocopeat and water bathroom plants sparingly.
DO PLANTS IN BATHROOM ATTRACTS INSECTS?
YES, they can, if they are not taken care of properly. Always keep these KEY POINTS in mind to DETER PESTS from BATHROOM PLANTS:
- Air-circulation – Leaves need to breathe. Clean them regularly, keep the fan on for some time, ensure the leaves don’t stay wet for too long.
- Lack of drainage – Standing water or too damp soil will invite all sorts of diseases and root rot. Ensure use of sandy soil, AVOID CLAYEY SOIL & COCOPEAT while planting plants in bathroom.
- Cleaning – The cleaner the leaves, without being wet or dusty, the better your bathroom plants will grow.
- Occasional sunlight – Rotate the plants and show them sunlight atleast every 20 days for healthier & quick growth with bigger green leaves.
