Finally i have started working on the ground.. the inspiration came when i looked at the geraniums growing in the pots.. looked at the huge bunches and envisioned a bouquet of these in diff colours lying on the table in the drawing room.. then I thought I need to have loads of these flowers to make this dream come true.. so lots of flowers can either come from lots of plants or a big plant.. And *bang* came this idea.. why not have more plants in the ground that can also grow larger than the ones in pots?
And so the work began. Chucked out four rose plants out of which 3 never bloomed and the fourth one was damaged though it had been a good performer.. they were in a horizontal row at the longer end of the garden.. so after 3 new geraniums.. one orange and pink that i had earlier and another type of pink, i started putting my plan together.. initially I’d considered taking cuttings from the existing plants but too impatient to resist i just got out and bought new plants.. I’ll take the cuttings anyway.. the diff type of pink is still in its pot but the other two went into ground where the roses had been..
Adding to the row are two French marigold- “Bo Jangle”, linum, hollyhock, verbena, salvia and carnations.. yes the same carnations that i rooted from cuttings. since i have the originals in pots already i thought the new ones should go into the ground.. both the hollyhocks and linum were space deprived in the existing places( mixed containers) so they really must be thanking me right now.. at least I hope so!!
I’ve also got begonia semperflorens in pink colour and a white verbena..
Talking of verbena.. I took cuttings from diff coloured plants and stuck them in a pot for rooting.. I will probably use these rooted cuttings for hanging baskets..
There is another French marigold which the squirrels never let bloom so have rescued this plant with a heavenly fragrance and it will also go into a hanging basket..
The seedlings both in ground and indoors are showing good progress and the ones outside will have to be transplanted soon..
I have a feeling that the notorious squirrel in my garden is feeding upon my poppy venus.. one day the bud opens and by the evening the flower vanishes.. very neatly trimmed off too.. it just lets it stay up on the plant for as long as I photograph it:( the squirrel and me have a silent eye to eye conversation.. I look at it chewing my plants.. it looks up at me.. I stare.. it continues chewing.. I threaten with my stare.. and it runs off only to come back soon.. smart squirrel always keeps its eyes open to checkout when the coast is clear.. must do something about it!!
Another colour in verbena is unfolding.. peach.. I love it.. absolutely.. totally..
And the supposedly black but really dark maroon pansy has opened up!! no regrets about it not being black.. I love what it is.. truly velvety and different.. if looked at closely though i can see some patches of black on the petals..
And a few more pansies..
The freesia has opened up too.. I was hoping for pink but this one is yellow.. equally beautiful though.. stunning I must say.. just that I have to have every flower in pink..
The marigold in the cute little container has also flowered.. its Bo-Jangle variety.. have a look..
