Coleus is one of the most quick rooting plant and while there are many methods of propagating coleus, this is the quickest and easiest method of rooting coleus cuttings.
- Take cuttings that are 4″-5″ in length. Make sure the cuttings are fresh.
- Remove the bottom leaves.
- Place the cuttings OVER soil surface horizontally not inside. This prevents rotting.
- Place a small light-weight pebble over the cuttings at the tip so that it holds down in place.
- Water lightly around the pebbles
- Place at a well-lit spot.
- Fresh leaves will start growing first, then you can check for roots.
- In about 7-10 days, you will see roots emerging.
- Let them grow a bit more.
- Plant vertically in a pot and enjoy the coloured foliage.

I can attest that this works. This is how I propagate my sedums, Kalanchoes, Senecio… I tried it out with some philodendrons earlier this summer, but it was a lot more difficult with the harder stems.
