Updates from the garden

So, i have been travelling a LOT for the past 2 months..(not vacationing, just travelling!) Add some fever, joint pains, parties, weddings and work to this mix and what I’m left with right now is absolute exhaustion!! Finally, after what seems like ages, i am back home to pick up the worn out threads of our home, health and garden. The weather hasn’t been kind either.. We humans can never be happy with the weather.. It is always too hot, too cold, too dry or too humid. But this year, the plants seem displeased too..

Thanks to the record-breaking amount of snowfall in hills (specially Shimla), North India is freezing! This has definitely affected the garden where nothing seems to have really picked up. The plants seem to have gone into hibernation and soil is almost frozen with a layer of fungus. Drainage has become an issue and bulbs are rotting. Ranunculus has rotted twice and i have now decided to buy the plants instead. Even the nurseries seem to lack color unlike every season while everyone is hoping for some days of sunshine before February for blooms to show before the flower shows begin.

While i away, there was *some* progress in the garden..

This patch of pudina (mint) seems extremely happy with the rare rays of sunshine.

Sweet peas are starting to bloom in railing planters. When i’d first started gardening and reading beauty blogs, i came across a picture of a woman cutting sweet peas from a large fence of blooming ones and vowed to have a similar one some day. THIS year i decided to finally bring some indoors for the first time as each season, there didn’t seem to be enough to harvest. This time, i followed my heart and bought in the first batch of blooms itself! The fence is still pending though..
